Islanders Empire Team Goes 2 and 1 at Valley Showcase

The Islanders Empire team improved their season record to 6-7-1-2 on the season by winning 2 out of 3 games at the Valley Warrior Classic over the weekend.

The Islanders beat the Palm Beach Hawks in the first game of the weekend 4 to 0. The Islanders got goals from Harris Montayne, 2 from Keith Barnaby and a powerplay goal from Justin Fisher. Players having assists in the game were Alfonso Diaz, Jon Pate (2), Nick McNally, Thomas Missert and CJ Maksut. “It was a good start to the weekend for us to get the first win really builds confidence for the rest of the weekend.” Coach Steve Smink said Friday after the win. Drew McLeman earned the shutout in goal stopping all 16 Palm Beach shots in the game.

 Saturday saw the Islanders drop a game to the Atlanta Knights who were undefeated at the time of their 3 to 0 win over the Islanders. “We played well but we made a couple of mistakes in our end and against a talented team like Atlanta they will capitalize and today it cost us.” Coach Mike Tenney said after the game Saturday.
 
Sunday the Islanders returned to form beating the Space Coast Hurricanes 9 to 0. A total team effort was turned in by the team, the Islanders outshot the Hurricanes 37 to 7. Alex Scanlon earned his first shutout of the season in goal for the Islanders. Goals were scored by Thomas Missert (2), Andrew Newis (2), Will Platt (2), Charlie Haddick, Cody Reagan and CJ Maksut. The Islanders also got contributions by way of assist from the following David Wilcox (3), Justin Fisher (2), Missert (2), Maksut (2), Haddick, RJ Tiorano, Nick Falbo, Jon Pate, Platt, Brad Anderson, Reagan and Zach Poorman. “It was a total team effort and we hope that we keep giving our best effort heading into two tough games next weekend.” Tenney said Sunday.
 
The Islanders Empire team next plays Friday 11/16 vs the NH Monarchs at 8:00pm and Saturday night 11/17 in Salem Ma to take on the Salem Bulldogs at 8:00pm.
