Digit Murphy Named U19 Full Season Head Coach, Director Women's Junior Program

Islanders annouce Junior Women's Program

Longtime Brown University Head Coach Digit Murphy has been named Head Coach of the U19 Full Season team** and Director of IHC's Women's Junior Program. Richard Gallant , IHC President stated,  “We are pleased to have Digit aboard to help with our women's Junior side player development as we take the next steps in progressing our Junior program.  Digit's passion and enthusiasm to grow the game are what we need to continue to build a strong Islanders tradition on the girl's side of our program.”

The IHC Junior Program exists to challenge the next level of growth in hockey development.  Our new women's Junior program exists to grow competitive educational opportunities for girls in the sport of ice hockey.  “With Digit Murphy as our U19 Full season Head Coach / Director IHC will reach new heights in player development.” said President, Richard Gallant.  Digit's knowledge of the college game and passion and enthusiasm for teaching will be inspirational for our players.  She has developed the game on many levels and we are happy that she is part of our organization.” Head of IHC Junior Hockey Operations, Paul Jenkins, reports, “We are excited to have Digit leading our Women's Full season U19 team's entry into the Junior Hockey world. With Stephanie Wood as overall IHC Women's Director and Digit as our Women's Junior Team Coach and Director, we have the one of the best, most experienced and passionate staff in women's hockey today”.

“Players who come into a Division 1 college environment take a year or so to adjust to the focused rigorous environment of college hockey.  IHC Women's Junior Program will develop players in the four basic areas of coaching: “technical, tactical, physiological and psychological” [1] . Players who develop in these areas have more success and will perform better at the college level.”  Said Digit Murphy long time Brown University Hockey Coach.

The staff at IHC are experienced former players and coaches at the Division 1 level and know what it takes to get to the top level of college hockey and will help all of the Islander Hockey Club players improve their skill sets and help them with the college process.

IHC strives to recruit great families who value and demand hard work, want coaches that drive discipline while demanding  accountability, understand coaches are educators, and that the growth and maturation process can only be achieved over time with honest open communication between player and coach
