Premier Team Updates

The Islanders Hockey Club split their weekend series with the PAL New York Jr Islanders winning the first game 5-4 and dropping the second game 2-1.   Both games were well played by each team and featured a good number of college coaches and pro scouts in the stands.

Elite team call up – George Gruber was called up from the Elite team for game two on Sunday.  With only 9 forwards, a normal lineup thus far this season with injuries, George filled in on almost each line and played a solid role.  GM/Head Coach Sean Tremblay was pleased with his efforts and commented, “I was very impressed with his compete level and he did not have a bad shift all game long.  He is a solid skater who understands the game and was very efficient no matter where I threw him.  I was also impressed with him as a person and was very proud to have him as our first call up of the year.”

Burmaster cleared!  Gregg Burmaster returned from the doctors office with a full clearance to start participating right away.  Gregg has been sidelined since the start of the season with a broken wrist.  The St. Lawrence University recruit will be a welcomed addition to the lineup!

One in – two out!  Even though we are getting Gregg back finally, we also lost two more over the weekend as Mason Krueger will be out with a concussion and Brendan White suffered a separated clavicle.  “In my 20 years of coaching I have never seen more injuries in such a short period of time,” stated Tremblay.  “It is amazing to be where we are at the moment with so many players out of our lineup each night.  Once we are completely healthy we will be a very strong team and we will be even better for overcoming all of the early adversity we have faced.”

South Shore on Friday – The South Shore Kings will return to Gallant Arena for a 2pm game this Friday (Oct 4) on the campus of Merrimack College.  The last time these two met up resulted in a shootout win for the Islanders.

Walk for Autism – The entire team will spend Sunday at Suffolk Downs participating in the Walk for Autism with the entire Islanders Hockey Club organization.  Lofty goals have been set and with some hard work will hopefully be met by Sunday.
