The 2017 Dineen Cup Championship Series will begin on Wednesday at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, MA, and will feature a best-of-three series between the Islanders Hockey Club and the Junior Bruins.

The Islanders Hockey Club, who won their second-consecutive Founders Cup, have had a perfect postseason thus far, knocking off both the PAL Jr. Islanders and Springfield Pics in two-game sweeps.

In the first game against the Pics last weekend, Daniil Sokolka netted two goals and Justin Ferguson stopped all 22 shots he faced.

Saturday saw Lucas Michaud (2-1-3), Mark Chermeta (2-1-3), and Matt Thomson (1-2-3) pace the Islanders to a decisive win and helped the Islanders punch their ticket to their second-straight Dineen Cup Championship Series.

Standing in their way, however, will be the Junior Bruins, who won the 2014 Dineen Cup in the inaugural season of the USPHL.

After defeating the South Shore Kings in a sweep, the Bruins ran into early trouble against the Syracuse Stars, dropping the opening contest despite a two-goal contribution by Ethan Roswell.

Saturday’s game saw the Bruins trail 1-0 entering the third period, but Patrick Choi and Harrison Markell scored to tie the game and Justin Miller’s two late goals evened the series.

Sunday saw the Bruins pick up where they left off, as goals by Patrick Flynn, Brady Jones, Ethan Roswell, Dallas Farrell, and Justin Miller propelled the Bruins to the Dineen Cup Championship Series. Elijah Harris turned in an impressive 30-save performance in the rubber match.
The regular season series was won by the Islanders Hockey Club in a five-game sweep.
The 2017 Dineen Cup Championship Series gets underway on Wednesday at 4:40 PM. Thursday’s game will also begin at 4:40, and should a third game become necessary, it will begin at 1:30 PM on Friday.
