Four More Islanders Hockey Club Elite Players Commit to NCAA Schools

The Islanders Hockey Club is pleased to announce that four more members of their 2016-2017 USPHL Elite Regular Season Title Team have committed to play NCAA Division II, III Hockey next fall.

Joseph Mortillaro from Lakeland Florida will be bringing his talents to the Suffolk Rams next season. Mortillaro had a stellar season for the IHC has he had 21 Goals, 31 Assists for 52 PTS in 47 GMS. “He’s a very dynamic forward that can really score in tight.” said IHC Head Coach Tim Kyrkostas.

IHC Defenseman Adam Schaffer from Defiance, OH, will be heading off to Trine University which is located in Angola IN. Trine will be fielding its first NCAA Division III team in the fall.  Schaffer was regarded as one of the top IHC Elite defenseman all season long. ”Adam put up 6 goals, 15 assists for 21 pts while also having to shut down the other team’s top line game in and game out. He’s such a solid strong defenseman that leads by example on and off the ice. He’s going to bring some solid stability to the Trine Program said Kyrkostas”.

A pair of FWD’s Anthony Giacomin, Drexel Hill, PA & Ryan McNelis, Havertown, PA will both be taking their talents to Post University in Ct. Giacomin had an outstanding season as he had 23 Goals, 25 Assists for 48 Pts in 48 Games. “Giacomin has extremely high hockey sense and has a nose for the net, he can play in every situation and we are super excited to have him in a Post Uniform next season” – said Post Head Coach Peter Whitney.

Ryan McNelis is a versatile FWD/DEF who had 4 goals and 16 assists in 45 games splitting time both up front and on the blue line this past season for the IHC. Coach Whitney said the following “we are very excited about Ryan coming to Post University, his character along with his grit and ability to play with jam while also being defensively responsible make him a great addition to our school and hockey program.”

“I am so proud of all four of these young men for what they have brought to the Islanders Hockey program and I can’t wait to see them make impacts on their collegiate teams in the coming years” stated Kyrkostas.
