Dineen Cup Champs Open with 5-0 Win

Marlboro, MA – The Islanders Hockey Club opened the 2017-18 season rolling over the Boston Bandits 5-0 at the Jr Bruins Showcase.  Lucas Michaud, last seasons second leading scorer in the USPHL, once again proved to be a huge threat scoring two goals and adding an assist.  He opened the scoring with the lone first-period goal pounding home a rebound off a Liam Darcy (UNH) shot.  If not for the goaltending of Bandits goaltender Jorrit Vos things could have been broken open early as the he stopped 16 of 17 shots.

The Islanders would strike midway through the second when Mark Gallant (Colgate) appeared to be shooting bringing over both the defender and Vos only to make a behind the back pass to a wide open Hunter McCoy who would make no mistake and fire it home for a 2-0 lead.  Minutes later on a quick neutral zone transition play, Sam Nestor would collect an Eric Nilsson feed on a 2-1 and wrist it top shelf.  Tyler Levine would also pick up an assist on the play.  With six seconds remaining and an offensive zone faceoff, Lucas Michaud would win the draw to Justin Pearson who would fire a low shot through Vos for a devastating goal with four seconds left in the frame and a commanding 4-0 lead.

Michaud would cap off his night picking up a PP goal off a nice low to high play from Nestor and Nilsson.  Ferguson would earn his shutout making two great saves on breakaways late in the game and show why he is the early favorite for goalie of the year.

The Islanders have today off and travel back for a Sunday tilt with the CT Rangers at 2:20pm and face off Monday with the Jersey Hitmen at 10am.
