Stamford, CT – The Islanders Hockey Club made it nine wins in a row with a weekend road sweep of the CT Rangers. Both games were hard fought by both teams and featured a lot of excitement for fans and scouts alike. Game one was mostly the IHC, but Conor O’Brien kept the Rangers in it by making 59 saves on the evening. JJ Layton would strike first with a PP goal off a Liam Darcy and Justin Pearson feed. Minutes later Hayden Taylor would take a Sam Nestor pass to the slot and pound home a one-timer for a 2-0 lead. CT would make it 2-1 when Pat Kissell found the back of the net off of some hard down low work. Late in the first Lucas Michaud would send Mark Gallant in on a shorthanded breakaway and he would make no doubt about it putting in a highlight reel goal. CT would tie things up in the second with Noah Strawn striking at the 7:39 mark, but it would be a goal with no time on the clock that would send CT into the locker room with a lot of momentum. It would be short lived as the IHC came out fast and furious putting 30 shots on goal. Jeremie Lavallee would eventually get the GWG at the 7:45 mark and Justin Pearson would get an empty netter to give Justin Ferguson the win in goal.
Sunday’s game never saw the IHC trail as they came out of the first with a 2-0 lead off of goals from Taylor and Lavallee. Scoring in the second would see CT strike first when Colin Slyne out home a rebound. Hayden Taylor would strike again for the IHC when he scored a power play goal from Matt Dillon and Lucas Michaud. Late in the period Brad Viola would pop one by Louis Felix St-Jean to make it a one-goal game. The Islanders Brent Hill would unleash a missile halfway though the third for the final tally of the game. Louis Felix St-Jean would get the “team hat” for his 37-save performance on the day.
The Islanders Hockey Club now sits at 13-1 and will host their annual showcase this weekend. NCDC games will be played Thursday at Merrimack, Friday at Tsongas, Saturday at Skate 3, and back at Merrimack on Sunday.
