Islanders Hockey Club are pleased to announce that 1998 Defenseman Thomas “Tommy” Andersen from Manassas, VA has committed to Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota to continue his hockey and academic career as an M.I.A.C. NCAA Division III Athlete. Tommy plans to obtain a degree in Applied Physics for a career in Electrical Engineering. He was first seen by Hamline University when the Islanders competed in the USPHL showcase in Florida. At that time, Hamline University as well as several other Universities expressed a great deal of interest. Tommy has played four seasons in the USPHL having been originally recruited by Coach Umansky for the Islanders, moving to South Shore Kings to play for one season and then coming back to finish his career with the Islanders Program and Coach Kyrkostas. Coach Laylin states "We're excited about the addition of Tommy Andersen to our Hamline Hockey Family. He's a responsible defenseman who will bring strength and depth to our defensive corp. He will be a reliable four year student athlete for our program."
