Weekend Recap with Coach TK!

Week 1 is in the books for the IHC NCDC Team and we sat down with Coach TK for a few minutes.

What were your overall thoughts on the weekend?

The opening weekend of the 2023-24 season was a tale of two emotions for the NCDC team.

" In game 1 we were the better team and played solid hockey in every facet of the game expect for scoring on our opportunities. We beat the Bruins to a ton of loose pucks which led us to getting all the power plays. I thought our Power Play puck movement was solid we just didn’t shoot when we had the chance to. Too many extra passes. The real disappointing play was not closing the game out. Not executing the proper angling in the NZone in the final 10 seconds was upsetting considering how much we worked on that all pre-season."

"We got 1 point so I suppose getting a least a point on the road is a good thing but we all know we had 2 points in hand."

Any players or lines standout?

Goalie Frank Murphy played a really solid game for us stopping 23 of 25 shots on goal.

"The line of Owen Arend, Daniel Cardozo and Phillippe Guay got us our lone goal and played hard all game long which was great to see."

What were your thoughts on Game 2?

"  I felt like we were hungover from game 1 – we lacked energy and fight till the 3rd period. All 3 goals we gave up were self-inflicting mistakes which led to the Bruins capitalizing. "

Were you able to take any positives from the game?

"I however was so proud of our fight and our will to score 3 goals in the final 12 mins to tie up the game and getting us at least that 1 point that we really didn’t deserve.  Max Lundgren, Tiki Ashikhmin and Andrew Miller scored big goals for us, and we almost got the game winner from Braxton Powers and Joey Samango in Overtime. "

What is the thought process for this week and weekend?

Going 0-0-2 first weekend getting 2 points isn’t good enough for this group and they know it.

"We are now getting ready to play our first of many (3) games in three days as we gear up to face the Hitmen on Friday, Mercer on Saturday and Wilkes Barre on Sunday."

"We have worked on the areas of our game this week in practice that we needed to work on and I am expecting us to be ready to go for Friday’s game vs the Hitmen."

Thanks Coach!
