The EJHL Huskies are tackling autism awareness this season.

The club is hoping to generate awareness and dialogue through the use of the international symbol for autism – the puzzle piece- adorned to there uniform.  A black sock now accompanies the Huskies black uniform with the puzzle piece adorned at the stripe area.

Coach Paul Jenkins spoke about the early responses to the project.  “We’ve had tremendous response to the sock so far.  In the locker room area alone we have been able to talk to parents of youth players, youth players and opposing players who have asked about the sock.”

Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex brain disorders know as Pervasive Development Disorders (PDD).  Asperger Syndrome, Rett Syndrome and Childhood Disingenerative Disorder are also included in the Autism Spectrum.

It is estimated that one in 110 children is diagnosed with Autism and one in 70 boys are diagnosed as autistic.
