McGilvery and Conlin Lead The Way

In the EJHL home opener at Skate 3 the Huskies downed the Springfield Pics 7-2 behind a 5-point night and hat trick from Ian McGilvrey.  Goaltender Tom Conlin earned the win with a 33 save performance.

The Huskies notched the games’ first goal at 6:44 of the first period when Dan Concannon drove the net as the trailer on a Jordan Robertson and AJ Hamel rush and slammed home a rebound past Pics goalie Nick Kohn for a 1-0 lead.   Kohn came up with a huge left leg save on Jordan Cosby just two minutes later to send the game to intermission at 1-0.

The Huskies opened up the game with three straight tallies in the second before Springfield broke through.  McGilvrey scored his first off a nice pull and tuck move at the goalmouth with 12:59 on the clock.  Mike LaFrenier and Mike Washington earned assists.  McGilvrey got his second goal on the same shift just 32 seconds later.  LaFrenier rushed the puck down the right wall from the Huskies defensive zone and from the right circle found McGilvery at the net front for the 3-0 lead.  Ryan Bedard stretched the lead to 4-0 when he ripped a shot past Kohn with 2:41 left in the period on the power play.  McGilvrey and Cosby assisted on the play.

The Pics got on the board with just over two minutes left in the second stanza when Matt Coleman found a soft spot in the Huskies defense and Tyler Bouchard fed him.  Joe Giordano also assisted on the play.

Seven minutes into the third period Cosby finished a rush down the right wing and snapped the puck past Pics replacement goaltender Kevin Venturoso to make it 5-1.

The Pics stayed in the battle and Giordano finished a Bouchard and Coleman play to cut it to 5-2.  The Huskies scored two late goals to close out the scoring.  McGilvrey notched a power play goal with assists to Bedard and Cosby at 1:08.  Robertson finished off the night following up a Hamel rush for his first of the season.  Matt George also assisted.

The Huskies put 41 shots on Kohn and Venturoso.  Conlin faced 35 in the win for the Huskies.  The Huskies and Pics are both back in action at NESC next weekend for the BJB Shootout.
