Empire Team Season

It is an odd expression to be “snake bitten” for ten games but that is exactly how coach Mike Tenney feels has been happening to his Empire Islanders through their first ten games of the season. “At this point we seem to find ways to lose. We were very good 5 on 5 today but we struggled on special teams.” Tenney said Sunday after his team fell to 2-5-1-2 on the season after losing to South Shore 5 to 1.

Most of the games the Islanders have played this year have been one goal games with 4 games going to overtime. Their record in overtime games is 1-0-1-2. The Islanders are getting contributions from everyone. There are 8 guys that have 5 points or more. David Wilcox leads the way with 7points (3 goals 4assists) and all but 3 guys have tallied on the score sheet. Defensively the Islanders are anchored by the steady play of their d-core Brad Anderson, Josh Vernot, Jake Dickson, Alfonso Diaz, Zach Poorman and Nick Falbo.

“It is times like these when we really have to focus on the development of our players and the development of our team. That is what will lead to our success in games. The fact that we have been making real gains in the gym and in practice, it is showing in the games, all that is left is the result. We all have to stay on the course and we will start to turn these good efforts into good wins” Tenney said Sunday.

The Islanders Empire team next takes the ice this Friday at Skate 3 against the Boston Bandits at 8:20pm and again Saturday at Haverhill against the Valley Warriors at 8:20pm.
