Izmirlian Offensive Star in Contentious North Division Battle

November 17, 2012

In a physical and emotional game at the Tri-Town Rinks in Hooksett, NH the Islander Hockey Club climbed out of the 2-0 first period deficit to skate to a 3-2 win over the host New Hampshire Monarchs.

IHC forward Chris Izmirlian figured in all three goals notching two goals and one assist in the victory.  With a bit of luck, Izmirlian netted the game winner in the second period at the games midway mark with the help of a favorable bounce off a stanchion.   Unfortunately for Monarch goalie David Jacobsen, who was very strong in his relief appearance, he was the recipient of the luck.  Izmirlian scooted through the neutral zone and fired the puck down the left wing wall.  As Jacobsen exited the goal crease to stop the ring dump the puck ricocheted off the glass stanchion into the empty net for the eventual game-winner.

Monarch defenseman Colin McGilvray started the scoring wristing a shot from the left point that found its way through a heavy screen beating IHC goalie Colton Phinney at 13:04.

Nick Bingham increased the Monarch lead to 2-0 taking a Joe Yeadon corner feed and beating Phinney at 10:31.

IHC leading scorer Mike Doherty cut the lead in half less that one minute later beating Monarch starter Zac Rondeau low stick side with a wrist shot.

The contest’s physicality ramped up and both sides with a steady stream of players spending time in the hoosegow.  Skating four players to a side, Izmirlian tied the game at 2-2 with a turn-around wrist shot from the left circle with 4:13 to go in the first period.

Jacobsen started the second period and finished with 26 saves.  Rondeau made 9 stops in the first.  IHC ‘tender Colton Phinney slammed the door after the first period and finished with 34 saves on the night.

The Isles are in action Sunday afternoon at home versus the Springfield Pics before heading to Thanksgiving Holiday.
