The Lighthouse, Tyngsboro, MA - The Islanders Hockey Club (IHC) swept the Rochester Stars in two games this past weekend 8-3 and 6-0. Sunday’s win marked the first time in Coach Sean Tremblay’s 20-year career that a goalie not only had a shutout, but also assisted on the game-winning goal. Colton Phinney, early in the second period, fired a puck to the far blue on a Rochester Stars line change. Michael Jamieson collected the tape-to-tape pass and sauced a backhand to Garret Cox who immediately released the puck low and hard past Will Massey for the 1-0 lead. It would be all the scoring needed, as Phinney would stop all 19 shots he faced and propel the IHC to the EJHL semi-finals.
The IHC proved to be too much for the Stars as they outshot them 49-19 on the day and received goals from Dakota Ford, Garrett Cox (2), Austin Surowiec, Luke Kirwan, and Ted McCarran. “We received such a strong team performance from our entire team,” stated Head Coach Sean Tremblay. “We talked all week about doing this together and the men are really in a good place right now and understand that is exactly what it takes. I am very proud of their effort this weekend and look forward to a great week of practice and preparation for next weekend.”
The IHC will host the Valley Jr Warriors this weekend. Saturday’s contest will see a 3:50pm puck drop followed by an 11am tilt on Sunday.
