DARTMOUTH, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth freshman Casey Shea (Woburn, Mass.) was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Rookie of the Year this afternoon after a vote by the seven conference coaches. Shea is just the second Corsair to earn the prestigious MASCAC Rookie of the Year award since UMass Dartmouth joined the conference prior to the 2010 season. The forward from Woburn, Mass. is also making his debut on the All-MASCAC, first-team. Shea registered eight goals and 20 assists for 28 total points to lead all rookies in scoring, holding a decisive 13-point advantage over the second highest freshman scorer. He ranked among the conference leaders in assists (2nd, 20), while ranking third in points per game (1.08) and eighth in power play goals (3). In 26 games, Shea cracked the scoring column 14 times, including six contests with multiple points. He registered career-highs in points (5) and assists (5) to help the Corsairs post a 9-2 victory over Framingham State on Jan. 15. Shea netted his first collegiate marker against Worcester State (Nov. 11, 2014), while scoring his first game-winning goal in the regular-season finale at Fitchburg State (Feb. 24, 2015). UMass Dartmouth (8-15-3) will return to action at 7 p.m. on March 3, when the Corsairs travel to Salem State University for the semifinal round of the 2015 MASCAC Ice Hockey Championship tournament. Sixth-seeded UMass Dartmouth defeated third-seeded Fitchburg State, 5-4, on Saturday night.
