North Andover, MA – The Islanders Hockey Club (IHC) of the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) is proud to announce Zachary Mirageas has verbally committed to attend the United States Air Force Academy. The defensemen, and one of the youngest players in the USPHL, will enter Air Force in the fall of 2017 giving him two more seasons with the IHC to polish off his game and enter as an elite Division One defensemen. A highly skilled defender with great offensive ability, Mirageas will be counted on to be a leader in the future both with the Islanders and at Air Force. Zachary commented on his decision, “When I visited Air Force over the summer and was able to meet the staff and see how professional a group they have in place, I knew it was the right place for me. I realize that being a student athlete at a service academy can put more demands on an athlete’s schedule, but I also realize that the academy is a place that will provide me the tools to be the best that I can be on and off the ice. I’ve always dreamt of playing Division One college hockey and now they have given me the opportunity I have been working towards all my life.” GM/Head Coach of the IHC Sean Tremblay went on to say, “I really feel Zachary made a great decision that will set him up for life. He can now focus the next two years on preparing himself to be a major player at Air Force and we are excited to work with him to make that a reality. He has really turned the corner this season, and although he still makes mistakes, he is learning from those mistakes and making himself better each practice and each game. He is someone I will enjoy watching mature both as a player and as a person and I cannot wait to see him represent Air Force and our country.” Zachary is the son of Hillary and James Mirageas of Newburyport, MA.
