CHICAGO - The Robert Morris Illinois Men's Hockey program is pleased to announce the commitment of goalie Darryll Smith. A Dallas area resident who was born in Germany, Smith played last season for the USPHL's Islanders Hockey Club out of Tyngsboro, Massachusetts. A tall, athletic and dedicated goalie at 6'1" and 175 pounds, Smith first learned of RMU after working with the father of RMU's CSCHL All-Rookie Team goalie Justin Ball (FR/Dallas, Texas), who highly recommended the school and the program. "I liked the academic fit," said Smith. "I like the IT program, and I know I can excel there. I'm really excited about the hockey program and the more I learned about it, the more I liked it." Smith was even more impressed after visiting the campus. "I liked how involved the faculty is, how involved the coaching staff is in making sure we're progressing towards a degree and staying current with all of our work." "We're very pleased that Darryll committed to our program," said RMU Gold Head Coach Chico Adrahtas. "That he committed after we made no promises regarding playing time was even more impressive. He's a young man who embraces the challenge of development, and is a very high-character addition to the program, with boundless potential. I'll be surprised if he doesn't make an impact with us. We've had a very good track record here of developing our players, especially goalies, and Darryll fits the mold of late-developing goalies."
