The Islanders Hockey Club are proud to announce the commitment of Elite defenseman Matt Drake to Assumption College. The Assumption Greyhounds play in the NCAA Division II Northeast-10 Conference.
Drake, a native of Whiting, NJ, started his time in the USPHL in the 2014-15 season with the Jersey Shore Whalers. He quickly established himself as one of the division’s top defensemen and led the team on a 12-0-1 run at the end of the season and deep into the USP3HL playoffs. Offensively, he chipped in three goals and three assists in the regular season and a goal and three helpers in four playoff games.
Drake made the jump to the Elite Division, skating for the Islanders Hockey Club, in the 2015-16 season and once again excelled on the blue line. The Islanders similarly made a lengthy playoff run that ended in the semifinals.
Drake is one of two USPHL alumni who will skate for the Greyhounds in the fall.
