Corey Goldstein to Amherst

Heads to the Lord Jeffs fall of 17

North Andover, MA – The Islanders Hockey Club is pleased to announce Corey Goldstein will be attending Amherst College this coming fall.  A graduate of Malden Catholic where as a senior he won the MA State High School Super 8 Championship, Goldstein will certainly bring a winning attitude to an already strong NESCAC grogram.

Corey offered, “I am extremely thankful to have the opportunity to play college hockey at such an elite institution.  For me, Amherst College was the perfect fit academically and athletically.  The school’s world class academics paired with its storied hockey program was instantly appealing.  Coach Tremblay and the whole Islanders organization have been instrumental in my development as a player and as a person.  Even in injury, I have come to understand the game better and to develop mentally and physically.  I am confident that my year in the USPHL with the Islanders will make my transition to college hockey a smooth one.”

“I am so happy for Corey and his decision to attend Amherst,” stated GM/Head Coach Sean Tremblay.  “I often tell our players to make decisions based on how it will affect the next forty years of your life, not just the next four.   Corey has made a great decision and is certainly setting himself up for a great life.   He has used his time this season being injured to become a better student of the game.  He has learned to see the game through the eyes of a coach and he is well prepared for next season.  I have been so impressed by his attitude.  He certainly is an example to all of our guys on how to handle real adversity.  I could not be more proud of his courage and determination to endure what he has gone through this season.  Cheyne Rocha went through a similar situation with me years ago and ended up being a captain at Army.  I can see the same happening at Amherst with Corey.”

The Islanders Hockey Club is currently in first place in the USPHL with a 23-5-1 record.  They are on break until after the New Year and will return with three games at the USPHL Winter Showcase in Marlboro, MA January 6-8, 2017.
