Islanders Take Game One of the Dineen Cup Finals #RoadtotheCup

Marlborough, MA (March 8, 2017)- The Islanders Hockey Club received goals from three different players as they skated past the Junior Bruins 3-1 in the first game of the 2017 USPHL Dineen Cup Championship Series.
The Islanders looked to take an early lead, as they outshot the Bruins 11-2 in the first half of the opening period, but goaltender Elijah Harris held his ground.
 
The Bruins battled grabbed the momentum in the final ten minutes of the frame and the period ended with shots in favor of the Islanders 15-12. Despite the flurry of shots, Harris and Islanders goaltender Justin Ferguson kept the teams off the board.
 
Dallas Farrell broke the scoreless tie with 7:42 on the clock in the second period when Jack Quinlivan and Pat Flynn sent him skating down the right wing. Farrell shot the puck from along the boards and beat Ferguson on the far side to give the Bruins the 1-0 lead.
 
The Islanders tied the game with 4:20 remaining in the period when Matt Thomson led a two-on-one. With Harris and a Bruins defenseman committed, he sent the puck across the slot to Austin Lemieux, who fired it home.
 
Less than a minute later, Lucas Michaud put the Islanders in front when he batted down a puck in front of the net and knocked it past Harris. John McLean, III received credit for the assist.
 
With 8:39 to play in regulation, Daniil Sokolka scored from the foot of the slot to give the Islanders a two-goal lead.
 
Harris skated to the bench to give the Bruins an extra skater with 1:28 remaining, but the Bruins were unable to close the gap and the Islanders held on for the win. Harris finished the game with 32 saves while Ferguson stopped 32 in the winning effort.
 
Game two of the Dineen Cup Championship Series will begin at 4:40 PM tomorrow. Should the Bruins force a decisive third game, it will take place on Friday at 1:30 PM.
