Foxboro, MA – The Islanders Hockey Club battled the New England Patriots traffic and then the South Shore Kings on Sunday afternoon.  Fortunately for the Patriots and the Islanders it was a good day.  The IHC would a goal a period and add an empty netter for a 4-1 road win on their only game of the weekend.

Just 4:42 into the first the Kings would strike when Quinn McCarthy would take a Patrik Misiuk pass and fire a wrister past Kalle Andersson.  It would be the only goal Andersson would allow stopping the next 17 shots he faced.  With several minutes remaining in the first Andrew Andary would take a turnover in the neutral zone and attack the blue line dropping a pass to Evan Daddario.  Daddario would carry the puck deep into the zone and hit a streaking Kam Ottenbreit on the back door to even things at 1-1.  Newcomer Kevin Sadovski would net the game winner when he finished a nice lay from Ottenbreit and Nick Parody.

Early in the third it would be Ottenbreit again who would find a wide-open Reagan Wortz sliding down from the blue line.  Wortz would unleash a hard shot past Shane Brancato for the 3-1 lead.  Andary would also pick up an assist on the play.  Wortz would later seal things off when he scored from center ice on an open net with :57 seconds left in the game.

GM/Head Coach Sean Tremblay commented on the win saying, “You could tell both teams had to wait until Sunday to play as the first period was a little sloppy by both teams.  I though we settled into our game well in the second outshooting them 16-7 and played a smart third period to secure the win.  We still have a lot to improve upon, as I know we are capable of much more than we are showing right now.  There are signs of us getting better, but we have to put a little more urgency into our game and possess the puck better in key situations.  We tend to have too many ‘unforced errors’ to use a tennis term and if we can limit those we will control a better part of the game.”

The Isles travel Thursday to the Hitmen Showcase where they will play an 8pm game against the Rochester Monarchs and then face the Jersey Hitmen Friday at 12:15pm.

Highlights:

Two of the four newcomers earned points this weekend with Reagan Wortz scoring two goals and Kevin Sadovski getting the GWG.

Bobby Murray is still on the IR list and is expected to return within a week or two.  Also sidelined are Martin Stohanzl (hip) and Nikita Lopitan (personal leave).

Just two weeks until the home opener on October 13 when the defending champs will raise their 2017-18 banner before a 7pm game vs. the Bridgewater Bandits.
